Cookie policy
This cookie policy explains which cookies my website uses, why it uses them and how you can accept, refuse or change them. Only essential cookies are set until you choose otherwise.

1. What cookies are
Cookies are small files stored on your phone, tablet or computer when you visit a website. Some are needed for the site to work. Others help me understand which pages are useful, or let content from another service, such as a video, play on the page.
The law on cookies is in the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). Regulation 6 of PECR restricts storing or reading information on your device, and the ICO’s cookie guidance explains that consent must be given by a clear, positive action.
Types of cookie
First-party cookies are set by this website; third-party cookies are set by another service, such as Google. Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser, while persistent cookies stay for a set time, shown in the lists below.
2. Essential cookies
These are needed for the website to work, including remembering the cookie choices you make. Because they are strictly necessary, they are always on and do not need your consent.
3. Analytics cookies
I use analytics cookies only if you accept them. They show, in general terms, which pages people read and how they find the site, so I can see which patient information is helpful and improve the rest. They are not used to identify you or to show you adverts.
4. Embedded content
Some pages show my patient films from YouTube and maps of my hospitals from Google Maps. Both services set their own cookies, so they load only after you give consent. Until then you will see a placeholder with a button to load the film or map.
5. Changing your choices
You can change your cookie settings at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page. If you withdraw consent, optional cookies stop being used from that point.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block essential cookies, parts of the website, such as the appointment form, may not work properly.
Health information and cookies
Cookies on this website do not collect what you type into the appointment or contact forms. How I handle anything you send me about your eyes is explained in my privacy policy.
Changes to this cookie policy
If I add or remove a cookie, I will update this cookie policy and the date at the top, and ask for your consent again where the change needs it.
