This page is not for emergencies

Same day

If you have sudden loss of vision, a dark curtain or shadow moving across your sight, new floaters with flashes of light, or a painful red eye that hurts to look at light, do not wait for a reply. Get help the same day from NHS 111 or eye casualty.

Emergency

Call 999 or go to A&E if you have a red eye with changes to your sight, pain when looking at light, or an eye injury.

The NHS page on red eye explains which symptoms need an urgent Optometrist appointment and which need A&E. If you have had eye surgery with me recently and something changes, call my practice as well, so I know what is happening.
