Appointments

Request an appointment, and I will take it from there

Tell me a little about yourself, what is troubling your eyes and the hospital that suits you. I read every request myself, and I will contact you to agree a date and explain what the first consultation involves.

What happens after you book?

  1. I contact you to confirm the date, time and hospital, and answer any first questions.
  2. If you are insured, you check your cover and get an authorisation code from your insurer before the appointment.
  3. At the consultation I examine your eyes, explain what I find and talk through the options, including the costs of any treatment.
  4. If you choose surgery, the hospital gives you a package price or your insurer pre-authorises it, and I help with the paperwork.

Please bring your glasses, a list of your medicines and any letters from your optician. Your pupils may be widened with drops, which can leave your vision blurry for a few hours, so you may prefer not to drive.

Other ways to book an eye specialist appointment: self-pay or insured

As a self-pay patient you can book with me straight away. A new consultation is £260 and a follow-up £195, and finance may be available to spread the cost of surgery. If you are insured, many policies ask for a GP or Optometrist referral first, so check before you book. More detail is on the fees and insurance page. My 2026 fees are confirmed when you book.

Not for emergencies

Same day

If you have sudden loss of vision, a dark curtain or shadow moving across your sight, new floaters with flashes of light, or a painful red eye that hurts to look at light, do not wait for a reply. Get help the same day from an Optometrist, NHS 111 or eye casualty.

Emergency

Call 999 or go to A&E if you have a red eye with changes to your sight, pain when looking at light, or an eye injury.

Booking questions

Can I see an ophthalmologist without a referral?

Yes. You can book with me directly without seeing your GP or Optometrist first. Some insurers do ask for a referral before they will pay, so if you are using insurance, check your policy before you book.

I aim to reply within 24 hours. I read every request myself, so if you have a preferred date or hospital, include it in your message and I will try to match it.

Choose the one that is easiest for you to reach. I offer the same consultation and follow-up at Nuffield Health Woking, The Runnymede Hospital, Mount Alvernia in Guildford and VISIO Health in High Wycombe. Maps are on the hospitals page.
